Check Hays County Online for Road & Flood Status

The Hays County Transportation Department reminds residents and visitors to “turn around, don’t drown” and to avoid crossing roads and bridges that have water over them.  Hays County posts emergency road closures and a flood warning system map for low water crossings online. The information can be reached by choosing “Emergency Road Closures” or “Flood Warning System and Map” under Road Information on the County’s home page at www.co.hays.tx.us.

Eighteen low water crossings in Hays County are equipped with flood alarms – if the water is over the crossing or about to be, residents will see a flashing yellow light and should turn around. Motorists are also encouraged to slow down when driving on wet roads. Road crews will barricade roads and low water crossings that aren’t equipped with alarms as they become aware of the need.  Flash flooding is the leading cause of weather-related deaths in Texas.
